  • It gave more importance to cricket.

  • Who was the cricket coach there?

  • Sir Ramakant Achrekar.( running summer camps).

  • What happened when he was 11 years old?

  • He went to Sir Achrekar for the first time and he came to know about Sir playing cricket in 1943 when he was also 11 years old.

  • Why was his induction difficult?Because he failed to make an impact.

  • Why did Ajit plead and insist upon Sir to give him an opportunity  by Sir not being present when he played?

  • Because he has seen him playing and performing better in the plays in  the colony.

  • At last  sir agreed to let him join the camp.

  • How was the camp? The schedule  was rigorous.

  • The sessions were every morning and evening at Shivaji Park.

  • From 7.30 till 10.30 and from afternoon  till late in the evening.

  • How far is Shivaji Park from Bandra? So what he had to do?40 minutes by bus and to start early to catch the bus to make it on time.

  • His brother’s telling  him about the nuances of batting during the bus journeys when he accompanied him.

  • Why was he forced to play all the days in the camp with

  • Wet pant pockets?

  • Because he had  only one set of  cricket clothes and the routine was to wash and dry in the morning and wear the same for the evening session too.

  • Why was Sir keen for the change in the schools?

  • Because the New  English School  in Bandra  did not have cricket facilties.

  • What happened then?

  • Discussions went on among Sir,Ajit and my father.

  • All three agreed. Then he was in the Sharadashram Vidyamandir,Shivaji park.

  • What was his father’s advice? To give it his best effort without worrying about the results.

  • HOW many practice matches did he play during the summer break of sixty days? 55

  • What is VAdaPav?What’s special about that?

  • It’s a popular Mumbai fast food.

  • From 7.30 to 4.30 sessions. 5 p.m again with a 30 minute break  Sir would give him money to have that Vadapaav.

  • What’s special with 1 Rupee coin?

  • It would be kept on the stumps. If he was not out ,the coin would become his and it was 15 intense minutes.

  • What helped him to build up physical and mental stamina? The rigorous practice in batting and also running with pads and gloves on in two full circuits of Shivaji Park.

  • What’s special with the cocktail? It is a fruit  juice, something special about it. He demanded that from his father some days.

  • To the embarrassment.

  • What was the great learning experience? The above incidents and also taking a bus or train from Bandra to

  • Churchgate.

  • What was melee? Playing cricket with friends  and forgetting the nets practice.

  • And Sir advised him to proceed to Shivaji Park.

  • What was his advice?””””cricket is waiting for you at the nets. Don’t waste your time playing insane games with these kids. Practice hard and what magic can TRANSPIRE.””

  • “CHOOSE something you enjoy and really want to do and you will be successful.””
